We are very excited to offer a limited selection of guitar straps made with 100% vegetable tanned full grain leather. Vegetable tanning uses natural tannins extracted from plants (versus a solution of chemicals) to produce leather. The slow, time-intensive process produces a very high-quality leather with deep, warm tones. Veg tanned leather is known for its robustness and strength. The tannins used in the tanning process bind to the collagen fibers in the hide, strengthening them and creating a resilient and durable material that resists tearing and degradation. Additionally, because vegetable tanning does not require synthetic coatings, the leather is allowed to "breathe". As a result, the leather is able to absorb moisture and oils, and thus will patina over time. Finally, vegetable tanning is the most environmentally-friendly method of leather production; only natural, biodegradable substances are used during the tanning process.
For the front of our veg tan guitar straps, we have selected a vegetable-tanned leather that is also full grain leather (yes, you can have both!). The leather has a nice "wet" feeling and is very reactive, meaning it will burnish with use. This veg tan leather is classy and STUNNING. Photographs, unfortunately, do not capture the beauty and quality of this leather. For the back side of these guitar straps, we have custom-plated a veg tan full grain leather to give it a grippier texture so your strap won't easily slip around on your shoulder.
